Dr. Donald Stewart

The Killeen ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved Superintendent Dr. King Davis’ recommendation to hire veteran Texas educator Dr. Donald Stewart Jr. as deputy superintendent for learning services, a key leadership role supporting the district’s ongoing efforts to strengthen schools and improve student outcomes.

Stewart brings 25 years of experience in public education, including service as a teacher, campus administrator, and district leader focused on improving academic systems and student outcomes.

He most recently served as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning in Sheldon ISD, where he supported campus leadership, oversaw instructional programs and helped strengthen accountability systems across the district. Currently, Sheldon ISD has no D or F rated schools.

Davis said this appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership systems and provide clear support for schools across Killeen ISD.

“Dr. Stewart understands schools and understands systems,” Davis said. “He’s led campuses, supported principals and helped districts improve results for students. That experience will help us continue the work of strengthening our schools and supporting our educators.”

Before joining Sheldon ISD, Stewart served as deputy of business operations for East Texas Advanced Academies and as assistant superintendent of academics in Natalia ISD. Earlier in his career, he served as both a high school and middle school principal in Judson ISD, where campuses improved accountability performance during his leadership.

Throughout his career, Stewart has focused on building strong instructional systems, supporting school leaders and improving district accountability outcomes. His work has contributed to improved A–F accountability ratings in both rural and urban school districts and strengthened academic performance across campuses.

“As educators, our responsibility is to build systems that allow teachers to teach and students to succeed,” Stewart said. “I’m honored to join Killeen ISD and look forward to working with our principals, teachers and staff to support student success.”

In the deputy superintendent role, Stewart will work closely with district leadership to support campuses, strengthen academic systems, and help align district departments to better serve students and schools.

Stewart earned a doctorate in leadership from Liberty University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Stewart’s start date will be announced at a later time.
